“Life after Birth” – Moms support group (English speaking)

September 2024

6 sessions in which you will receive the support, information and empowerment you need during your postpartum period!
Online
While the early days and weeks with a new baby at home can be filled with wonder, this time is also known to be one of the most challenging and often isolating a person can experience. Getting to know your new baby, recovering physically from birth, navigating an influx of information and options, and adjusting to a new normal can take time. And learning to embrace your new self along the way can be one of the greatest (and most rewarding!) challenges a new mother faces. Our English support group meetings are held weekly over the course of 6 weeks, last 1.5 hour each, and are open to both first but also second, third, fourth (+) time mothers looking for a safe place to share experiences, receive judgement-free support and connect with other mothers who are likewise navigating the trials and triumphs of life with a new baby. Our group is suitable for any mother having a baby from 0 up to 12 months of age.

Birth & Postpartum debriefing
Our experience of birth (and of postpartum) is a pivotal one, and yet it is often overlooked. This first session is designed to acknowledge the lasting effect which our experiences have on us, and to provide each participant the space to share (as much or as little about) their birth or early postpartum experience.

Finding renewed balance as a family
A session dedicated to exploring some of the ways in which family dynamics can change with the arrival of a new baby (or babies). Let’s talk common challenges, autopilot mode and the importance of reconnecting proactively in our new roles as parents.

Expectations
What did I expect? What didn’t I expect? Which of our expectations are truly ours versus those of the people that surround us? How do these expectations impact our ability to parent as we hope to? What can we do about it?

Boundaries
An open discussion about the role that boundaries (have to) play in our lives and in those of our children. Practical guidance, tips and ideas on how to set, maintain and communicate the boundaries that allow us to be well.

Redefining Self-care
What is self-care? Barriers, common misperceptions, and a renewed approach to thinking the care we need as mothers and how we can begin to ensure that our needs are met.

The ‘Perfect’ Mom
A raw look at the myths of motherhood and a breakdown of the super hero, self-sacrificing mom vision that often drives our unrealistic expectations of what it means to be great.
